[English]

There’s a lot that first-time job seekers bring to the table. They’re often eager and enthusiastic, technologically-savvy and up-to-date on the latest skills and trends in their desired field. Yet there is still a lot that new job seekers have to learn when it comes to mastering the job search. Here, experts weigh in on 10 mistakes many first-time job seekers make and how these errors can be avoided: 1. Putting too much weight on their GPA过于看重自己的平均成绩GPA ”[A mistake first-time job seekers make is] believing that high academics is the most important factor in finding a job,” says Stephanie Kinkaid, program coordinator for the Wackerle Career and Leadership Center at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill. “Graduates need leadership qualities and the ability to articulate how those experiences have created a well-rounded individual.”“初次求职者都会犯的错误是认为高学历才是找到工作的利器,把学历看成是最重要的因素,”蒙茅斯学院瓦克勒职业和领导中心职业规划人斯蒂芬妮-金凯德说。 2. Not doing enough research没有充分做好调查研究工作 ”Many times, job seekers don’t realize the importance in conducting research,” says Debra Ann Matthews, professional résumé writer and certified career coach. “Learn about how to obtain a job … Go to the library and read about job-search tools.

She's a little heavy。
委婉的说法是the people living under welfare,复杂是复杂一点,但还是不应嫌麻烦。
The dress fits you very well,就等于是在说你的眼睛不老实。 The dress fits you very well呢?
后来,我也碰过几次类似的场合,每次那句“Don't fuck up my stuff on the [FS:PAGE]desk”都到了舌边,又被我压了回去,因为我不敢,怕掌握不了分寸;我只敢在出门时, 恶狠狠地slamed the fucking door,呵呵。

[English]

You already know that you should wake up early to become more productive, and perhaps you have also heard that you shouldn’t check your email first thing in the morning. While this advice is good and well-documented, there is also another kind of productivity advice that is as effective as well. Even if the tips are less-known and somewhat counter-intuitive, you just have to give them a try and see how they work for you. 1. Work when there is a distraction around1. Your environment doesn’t have to be 100% quiet if you want to get work done. Let’s say that you are working from home and you have kids. Let’s also assume that you don’t have a dedicated workspace in your home to do your work. Naturally, you could decide to do work during the quiet hours (before the rest of the family wakes up), but not all of the tasks have to be done then. The fact is that there are certain tasks which allow more distraction than others, and when you know this, you can plan your days more efficiently. In fact, you could dedicate those quiet hours to working on something valuable while the rest of the time (when your family is awake) you can finish less valuable tasks. For instance, I can c

[English]

What kind of life do you want? Is pursuing happiness the goal of your life? Or would you rather lead a meaningful life? Wait, you say, but aren’t happiness and meaning linked with each other? Surely someone who leads a meaningful life is happy? And we find meaning in the pursuit of happiness?
According to a new study, a happy life and a meaningful life are not the same thing. In fact, the single-minded pursuit of happiness can leave people less happy.
The study will be published this year in the Journal of Positive Psychology. A recent article in The Atlantic provided a summary of the results.
Scientists asked nearly 400 US citizens aged 18 to 78 whether they thought their lives were meaningful and happy. These people were asked about their attitudes toward meaning, happiness and many other aspects in life, like stress levels, spending patterns, and family life. The researchers found that a meaningful life and a happy life overlap in certain ways, but are essentially different.

A new way of thinking has become the necessary condition for responsible living and acting. If you want to move forward, you must change your way of thinking and leave these thoughts behind you:
1. “I don’t have a choice.”
You write your own destiny through the choices you make. You become what you repeatedly do. It is more important to know where you are going and why, than to get there quickly. Every time you are tempted to react to the same old circumstances in the same old way, ask yourself, “Do I want to be a prisoner of the past, or a pioneer of the future?”
“The way it is now is the way it will always be.”
Don’t confuse your path with your destination. Just because it’s stormy now, doesn’t mean you aren’t headed for sunshine. And remember, you cannot heal a lifetime of pain overnight; be patient with yourself, it takes as long as it takes, but your happiness is worth the wait.
3. “Life is easy.”
Life is NOT easy, it IS difficult. That’s the greatest truth there is. It’s great because once you understand and accept this truth, you can move forward with your life. Once you thorough

[English]

Not only do people make new resolutions at the start of the New Year, but many are also looking to drop bad habits. A toxic habit can be an insidious force in your life — you'll keep falling into its trap, and pretty soon, it'll become second nature and you won't even notice it. Instead, when unfortunate events happen in your life, you'll wonder how they all came about without realizing that you set them up by indulging in bad habits. Nip these bad behaviors in the bud before they spiral out of control:新年伊始,人们不仅制定新计划,也决心改掉坏习惯。 The "later" mentality. Organization expert Peter Walsh says the one habit you should drop this year is procrastinating. Walsh says it's the small steps that need to be done to stay on top of clutter. This mentality applies to all areas of your life. For example, that work task you've been putting off for weeks or months? Instead of holding it off until "later," working on it step by step will get you to your end goal faster. Saying "yes" to everything. If you're a people pleaser, learn to say "no" to people this year. It's one thing to do a favor for a friend or co-worker, but remember not to overextend yourself.

Remember your 16-year-old self, the one who thought finding the right prom date and getting an A in geometry were crucial to existence itself? Or what about your early 20s self, who, holed up in a tiny apartment and slaving away at an entry level job, suspected that it would be that way forever? Ever wish you could go back and comfort her? Give her some perspective, help her avoid the mistakes you now regret, somehow assure her that she would be okay? We recently asked our community the question, "If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?" We got over a hundred responses, ranging from relationships and careers to body image and confidence. Below are our favorite 15 responses。 1.When people tell you that you are amazing, strong, resilient, smart, and capable - BELIEVE them.1. 2. High school does not determine who you are for the rest of your life. You may fall in love with your high school sweetheart but that love feels nothing like the love you will feel with your spouse. People may make fun of you but continue to stay true to who you are. Real friends will be there for the long haul. Don't sweat the small

[English]

一般来说,模仿造句都要经历以下三个阶段,即3M阶段:第一个M代表“mechanical imitation”,即机械模仿;第二个M代表“meaningful and creative imitation”,即有意义的创造性模仿;第三个M代表“make it an indispensable part of your own life”,即将他人的东西真正融入自我,变成自己的东西,实现质的飞跃。

    1.He is a very stingy person.
小气的”,例如:He was reputed stingy.(他吝啬得出了名。)
Don't be so stingy with the sugar.(别那么舍不得放糖。) 2.What a miser!
Bless her from marrying a miser.(上天保佑她不要嫁给一个吝啬鬼。) 3.He's not a generous person.
He is generous with his money.(他花钱大方。) He is generous to the poor.(他对穷人很慷慨。) 4.She's such a penny pincher.
You know, with the national debt getting so big, maybe we ought to elect some penny-pinchers to the Congress next time.(你知道,现在我们国家的预算赤字越来越大,也许我们应该下次选举那些花钱很紧的人去做议员)。 5.He's such a tightwad.
Oh, no, my dad is driving me bonkers. He is such a tightwad!(噢,我老爸快把我逼疯了,他太小气了!) 6.Money means everything to her.
  如果money means everything to her,那在她眼里,也就没有什么更重要了,但是,Money isn't everything.(钱不是万能的。)
This news means everything to us.(这条消息对我们来说至关重要。) 7.He's very tightfisted.
As a result, the US consumers will remain tight fisted if the price stays on the same level.(因此,假如价格没有变化的话,美国消费者的手头还会很紧。) 8.Her boss is a skinflint.

[English]

1. The report is due on Friday / this coming Friday.
Note: If you're talking about the end of the current week on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, "on Friday" is OK. But, if you're referring to Friday on a Saturday or Sunday, "this coming Friday" is clearer than "next Friday".
2. We have a research paper due every other week.
Note: We also have "every other day" (每隔一天).
I have to see my dentist every three days.
However, "every single day" means every day. "Single" simply strengthen the repetitive sense.
Mom, why should I have to brush my teeth every single day?
3. We are out of time.
Note: You're sweating on the final test, and suddenly the teacher announces, "We're running out of time. Be sure to sign your tests." (时间快到了,请确定考卷填好了姓名) So, you try to write down as many words as possible in the final minutes until he announces, "Time's up".
4. How much longer do you need to get all this stuff done?
Note: "How much longer" puts emphasis on the length of the time (sometimes with an air of annoyance or impatience), while "How long" is a neutral expression simply asking for the numerical figure.

[English]

  ① I came to like Spaghetti.
② Tomato soup is my cup of tea.
My cup of tea,若换做更中式的表达,可以说“…… He’s not her cup of tea.(他不合她的心意。)
  ③ I live for pizza.
④ Baseball grew on me as I grew older.
Grow on sb. This place grows on one.(这个地方越来越让人喜欢。)
  ⑤ I prefer tea to coffee.
  Prefer A to B 比起B来更喜欢A,两样物品比较的时候,就可以用prefer来表达啦。
  come to like 开始喜欢上……
  grow on sb.
  prefer A to B 比起B来更喜欢A
